Glossary

Shift. A day's rule.

A shift is a defined working period — a start time, an end time, a break and a grace period — that serves as the rule a day's clocking records are measured against.

What a shift definition carries

  • Start and end time, including arrangements that cross midnight.
  • A break deducted from working time.
  • A grace period in minutes at the start.
  • A separate definition per weekday where needed.

Shifts that cross midnight

A shift running from the evening into the following morning spans two calendar days. Which day it belongs to is a question every manual system re-opens each month. Defined as a time range, the rollover follows from the definition instead.

In easyPDKS

In easyPDKS shifts are the rule everything else derives from: lateness, early leave, absence and hours are all measured against the shift the person was scheduled for.

Ask on WhatsApp
Can one employee work different shifts?

Yes. The shift applied on each day comes from the plan, so the same person can move between shifts across a cycle.

Which day does an overnight shift count towards?

It follows from the shift's time range rather than being flagged by hand, so the answer is the same every month.
